LAUGH OR YOU'LL CRY SKETCHSHOW

SKETCH SHOW ROLES

While we have been off in lockdown, we have worked closely with the Film & TV classes on a lockdown sketch show, which is uploaded in 4 different episodes. I appear in episodes 2-4, as the first time Karly and I tried to film with Adrian we endured many technical difficulties and had to refilm a week later.

EPISODE 2 - CECILIA
For this episode I did a sketch alongside Karly, which was written and directed by Adrian Everest. As I previously mentioned, this was supposed to air in the first episode but we had quite a few issues with recording so we moved it to Ep2. My role in this was a snobby, rich woman who didn't believe in Corona Virus, and complained about how it affected her luxury life. She is very obnoxious and uptight, and doesn't seem to care about the masses that are genuinely affected by the virus. I found this role fun to play as it the opposite of me and the exact type of person I dislike, so it was weird and funny to step in their shoes. I really loved doing the posh voice and drinking my pretend wine.

EPISODE 3 - MEGAN
For this episode, I written and directed my scene myself, as my tutor suggested we could do this so I decided to give myself a bit of a challenge as I need more experience in writing and directing. I chose to do it about lockdown with my cats, as I thought it could be comedic and relatable. I cast the three cats myself (Fluffy voiced by Brooke Robinson, Bella voiced by Magen James and Sox voiced by Ethan Brown). I wanted a funny sketch that could be appreciated by all audiences. Within this, I play myself and I talk about the impact having cats has especially while we are trapped indoors. I kept this role fun and light hearted, and it was fun to play.

EPISODE 4 - AMY, CECILIA, JENNIFER
This episode I played 3 roles! Which was very stressful but very exciting too.

Cecilia made a comeback, but this time alongside Ophelia, played by Magen James. For this sketch, I was on a video call like I was with Karly. I keep the snobby personality, and both Magen and my character are complaining about how bored we are that we can't go out, and I hate that I can't party. We share what we have been doing to try and keep busy. I really enjoyed being apart of Adrian's sketch as it pushed me to try out a new accent and it was a character I'd never really explored before.

Now the next role I played was Amy. This sketch was written and directed by Hollie Whelan. The sketch was a follow up from a previous episode which Kalem Stockill and Emily Peaurt worked on. It's about people who make conspiracies on Covid, verus those who don't. I acted alongside Kalem Stockill, Magen James and Ethan Brown. I played a theorist so I was saying why I thought Corona was fake and I didn't believe in it. Kalem was also a theorist, whereas Ethan and Magen were not. I particularly enjoyed this as it was a fun script, and I liked having a strong attitude.

The final role I played in this episode is Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer is a 40 year old nurse from Liverpool who goes on a dating show. Last Dates was written and directed by Tom Kerr. I worked alongside Daniel Cooper and Kalem Stockill, who had reoccurring roles on this sketch. This was a very exciting role to play, as I'd never really played a character of this age range. There was a lot of shouting and arguing, which was very fun to film as I've never had a role like this. It definitely pushed my boundaries as an actor and got me more comfortable with being dramatic.

In the final edit, only Jennifer and Claire from The Breakfast Club (which was only a short 2 second clip so there's not much to say about her). There will however be an extended version soon.

BLOOD BROTHER'S REVIEW

On the 3rd of February 2022, the actors, film students and makeup artists went to see a performance of Blood Brother's at Darlington Hippodrome theatre. Here is my review of the performance. THE PLOT: 'Blood Brother's' is a play written by a Liverpudlian playwrite, Willy Russel. Set in 1960's Liverpool, this play tells the story of two fraternal twin brothers, Michael and Edward who are separated at birth. They both go on to live very different lives, in two completely separate environments.  Michael, also known as Mickey, is brought up by his biological mother Mrs Johnstone. Mrs Johnstone is a single mother, and struggling financially, hence why she had to give Edward up. She is also raising seven other children, and they live in a poor part of Liverpool. However, Edward's life is very different. Edward (or Eddie) is raised as an only child, to Mrs and Mr Lyons. They live near by in a wealthy area of Liverpool.  Mrs Lyons was unable to have her biological child...

FRANTIC ASSEMBLY

Frantic Assembly are a vastly known theatre company, which formed over twenty five years ago. It is located within London. The co-owner Scott Graham founded this company in 1994.  They have created many pieces of work, including but not limited to: I Think We Are Alone, Othello, Beautiful Burnout, Things I Know To Be True and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. They have collaborated and commissioned with a rage of writers, such as: Sally Abbott, Simon Stephens, Andrew Bovell, Mark Ravenhill and Bryony Lavery- they have even toured the work with their productions- visiting approximately 40 countries. Their company is best known for their work with physical theatre, they include it within their productions perpetually.  But saying that, you might be wondering what physical theatre ACTUALLY is. Physical theatre is a rather abstract tool for performing- it is the primary method of story telling with physical movement. It incoperates techniques such as: mime, gesture...

THEATRE PRACTITIONER - STANISLAVSKI

Stanislavski is a very well known theatre practitioner; he directed a variety of productions which led him to be so familiar. He was broadly recognised as an outstanding character actor. His work has been very influential over the years, and people still consistently practise his techniques today.  "The language of the body is the key that can unlock the soul" BACKGROUND OF STANISLAVSKI Stanislavski was born as Konstantin Sergeyevich Alexeyev. He was born on January 17th 1863, into one of the most affluent families in Russia. His family were all fans of theatre, and he was able to get into amateur theatricals when he was just a boy. He adopted his stage name as Stanislavski later on in his life, during 1884, as he was concealing his own theatrical work from his family. However, when he gained his fathers approval in 1887, he became a well known and established figure. He passed away at the age of 75, in 1938. WHAT STANISLAVSKI DID Stanislavski was the founder of the Mos...
