TASK 1 - MONOLOGUES (SARA)

Each create and devise a monologue (between 1-4) that is is 1-3 minutes long, with the stimulus being Lockdown.

My monologue was entitled 'Countdown' and I decided to base it around the mental health difficulties during lockdown, and how it feels to be trapped in isolation. I wanted to do a dramatic monologue as I haven't really delved into this genre yet, and I felt this was a good opportunity to.

TASK 2 - PHYSICAL THEATRE DEVISED PIECE (HANNAH)

Hannah gave us a physical theatre task. The stimulus for this was also lockdown. We had to devise our own physical theatre piece, to any music we desired and that fitted. Mine shows how everyday is a repeat of the same thing and how days feel like they're merging into one and it's quite a blur because we aren't doing anything, and how it feels like we're robots with no purpose.

TASK 3 - REPLICATION SCENE (KANE)

For this task I decided to choose a scene from the show Skins (UK). I chose to film Cassie Ainsworth's therapy video diary. I chose this scene as I was drawn to it, due to the way it was filmed and performed. I found it intriguing and very beautiful.

The feedback given to me off Kane was this:

- The movement that you use within the performance is suitable and accurate to the source material.

- Your vocal performance also does a good job of expressing the confusion the character is feeling. It varies and develops throughout the performance into the two separate states that the character finds themselves in. Your pronunciation is good and very clear to understand.

- The emotion that you used in your voice is a very good start but I think that you are missing something in terms of the instability of the original performance. You seemed quite level headed and strong in your own rendition, whereas the original had a fragility about it, as if the character didn't truly understand why she had those opinions on the things she loved and hated. A little more work on this and I'm sure you can get it.

- Facial expressions are also strong and evolved throughout the performance, they gradually change with each different subject and are motivated by the lines that are said. Same as with the vocals, I think you're missing some of the instability and uncertainty here but that could be worked on with more time.

- The tones in your voice are good and varied. They add depth to your performance and make it very believable and gripping for an audience.

- Your framing was also good and gave us a clear view of your performance. If you were to choose a different performance in the future that required your body language to be more visible, make sure you frame with slightly more of your torso in the shot.

BLOOD BROTHER'S REVIEW

On the 3rd of February 2022, the actors, film students and makeup artists went to see a performance of Blood Brother's at Darlington Hippodrome theatre. Here is my review of the performance. THE PLOT: 'Blood Brother's' is a play written by a Liverpudlian playwrite, Willy Russel. Set in 1960's Liverpool, this play tells the story of two fraternal twin brothers, Michael and Edward who are separated at birth. They both go on to live very different lives, in two completely separate environments.  Michael, also known as Mickey, is brought up by his biological mother Mrs Johnstone. Mrs Johnstone is a single mother, and struggling financially, hence why she had to give Edward up. She is also raising seven other children, and they live in a poor part of Liverpool. However, Edward's life is very different. Edward (or Eddie) is raised as an only child, to Mrs and Mr Lyons. They live near by in a wealthy area of Liverpool.  Mrs Lyons was unable to have her biological child...

FRANTIC ASSEMBLY

Frantic Assembly are a vastly known theatre company, which formed over twenty five years ago. It is located within London. The co-owner Scott Graham founded this company in 1994.  They have created many pieces of work, including but not limited to: I Think We Are Alone, Othello, Beautiful Burnout, Things I Know To Be True and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. They have collaborated and commissioned with a rage of writers, such as: Sally Abbott, Simon Stephens, Andrew Bovell, Mark Ravenhill and Bryony Lavery- they have even toured the work with their productions- visiting approximately 40 countries. Their company is best known for their work with physical theatre, they include it within their productions perpetually.  But saying that, you might be wondering what physical theatre ACTUALLY is. Physical theatre is a rather abstract tool for performing- it is the primary method of story telling with physical movement. It incoperates techniques such as: mime, gesture...

THEATRE PRACTITIONER - STANISLAVSKI

Stanislavski is a very well known theatre practitioner; he directed a variety of productions which led him to be so familiar. He was broadly recognised as an outstanding character actor. His work has been very influential over the years, and people still consistently practise his techniques today.  "The language of the body is the key that can unlock the soul" BACKGROUND OF STANISLAVSKI Stanislavski was born as Konstantin Sergeyevich Alexeyev. He was born on January 17th 1863, into one of the most affluent families in Russia. His family were all fans of theatre, and he was able to get into amateur theatricals when he was just a boy. He adopted his stage name as Stanislavski later on in his life, during 1884, as he was concealing his own theatrical work from his family. However, when he gained his fathers approval in 1887, he became a well known and established figure. He passed away at the age of 75, in 1938. WHAT STANISLAVSKI DID Stanislavski was the founder of the Mos...
